Written for India's heat, monsoon and soil. These are general guidelines; adjust to your city, soil and season, and message us if you want advice for your location.
Cymbidiums like more light than most orchids: bright light with some morning sun. Leaves should be light-green; dark green leaves usually mean it will not flower well.
Unlike many orchids, Cymbidium should not dry out completely. Water regularly through the year, keep the mix evenly moist, and never let the pot stand in water.
Use a coarse bark mix with some coco chips in a large pot. Cymbidiums flower well when slightly crowded, and need repotting only every 2–3 years.
Feed every 1–2 weeks in the growing season with a balanced orchid fertiliser, and flush with plain water monthly.
Cymbidiums are cool-growing orchids. Nights of about 10–21°C in winter help them set flower spikes. In hot plains, flowering can be light, so ask us about your city before ordering.
Cut the spike after flowering, but keep the green pseudobulbs and leaves. They store energy for next year's spikes.
Cymbidium orchids flower in winter to early spring, and the cool nights of the season help them set flower spikes. The long, arching sprays last several weeks. In hot plains with warm winter nights, flowering may be light or delayed. In cooler hill climates it is usually reliable.

It prefers cool nights to set spikes, so flowering can be light or delayed where winter nights stay warm. It does best in hill climates such as the Nilgiris, Kodaikanal or Coorg. Message us with your city and we will advise.
Bright light with some morning sun. It tolerates more light than most orchids, and dark green leaves usually mean too little.
Keep the mix evenly moist all year, since Cymbidium should not dry out completely, but never leave the pot in standing water.
Usually too little light, no cool-night period in winter, or too little feeding. Give it bright light, regular feed and the coolest spot you have in winter.
