Phalaenopsis, the moth orchid, is native to tropical Asia and Australasia, including parts of India, and is the world's most popular potted orchid. Its broad, flat flowers sit along arching spikes above thick, glossy leaves, and last for weeks. The pink form is a favourite for living rooms, offices and gifts, as it flowers indoors in bright, filtered light.
Orchids reward the right setup: the right light, a fast-draining mix and a regular feed. Below you will find the origin, a plant profile, care steps for Indian conditions and the flowering time, so you know what to expect before you order.

Place it by a bright window or under shade with no direct sun. Pale-green leaves show good light; dark green leaves mean it needs more.
Water about once a week, when the mix is nearly dry, and keep water out of the leaf centre to avoid crown rot. A clear pot shows when the roots are silvery and ready for water.
Use bark with coco chips or moss in a clear pot. Repot every 1–2 years, ideally after flowering, when the mix breaks down.
Feed weekly in the growing season with a balanced orchid fertiliser at quarter strength, and flush with plain water monthly.
Phalaenopsis is a warm-growing orchid and does well between about 18°C and 30°C. A modest drop in night temperature in winter helps it set flower spikes.
When flowering ends, cut the spike just above a node on the stem, or to the base if it dries. Keep feeding and it can flower again.
The moth orchid usually flowers from winter to spring in India, and a cooler spell with slightly lower night temperatures helps it set new spikes. The flowers last several weeks. Bright indirect light, regular feeding and a healthy root system are what bring on repeat blooms.
