Vandas are native to tropical Asia, including India and South-East Asia, where they grow on trees with thick aerial roots hanging in the air. Semi-terete Vandas are hybrids between the flat strap-leaved Vandas and the round, pencil-leaved terete types, so their leaves are in between, and they are known for forming several flower spikes more than once a year. This is offered as a mature plant, which makes it a premium choice for collectors who do not want to wait years for a young Vanda to flower.
Orchids reward the right setup: the right light, a fast-draining mix and a regular feed. Below you will find the origin, a plant profile, care steps for Indian conditions and the flowering time, so you know what to expect before you order.

Vandas need bright light. Semi-terete hybrids like a lot of sun but need protection from the harshest midday sun, for example under a light shade net. Medium-green leaves show good light; dark green leaves mean it needs more.
Water daily or every other day in hot weather, early in the day, soaking the aerial roots well. Roots should dry between waterings, so avoid keeping them wet. Cut back in the coolest months.
Grow it in a slatted wooden basket with large bark chunks or hung bare-rooted, so the thick aerial roots dangle in the air. Vandas dislike root disturbance, so repot only every 3–5 years.
Vandas are hungry plants that like a little often. Feed weekly in the growing season with a balanced fertiliser at quarter to half strength, and flush with plain water monthly.
Vandas like warmth and high humidity, roughly 65–80%, with a range of about 13–35°C and good air movement. This suits most of peninsular India. Protect from cold nights and drying winds.
When the spike turns brown after flowering, cut it to the base so the plant can rest and grow for the next flush. Do not cut the aerial roots.
Semi-terete Vandas flower mainly in spring and summer in India, and because they are hybrids they can form several flower spikes more than once a year in warm, bright conditions. Each spray lasts several weeks. Plenty of light, regular feeding, high humidity and good airflow are what bring on repeat flowering, and Vandas that are too shaded flower poorly.

Bright light with some sun. Semi-terete Vandas like a lot of light but need protection from harsh midday sun. Too little light means few or no flowers.
Daily or every other day in hot weather, early in the day, letting the roots dry between waterings. Cut back in the coolest months.
Yes, in a bright, airy spot such as a sunny balcony or a garden under a light shade net. Hang it in a slatted basket so the roots hang free.
It is a little more demanding than a Dendrobium, as it needs bright light, high humidity and frequent water, but it is rewarding and suits warm Indian climates well.
Semi-terete Vandas are hybrids with leaves between the flat, strap-shaped leaves of ordinary Vandas and the round, pencil-like leaves of terete Vandas. They like bright light and tend to flower freely in warm climates.
