Thunbergia mysorensis is native to southern India, from the Nilgiri hills down to Kanyakumari, at elevations up to about 900 m, where it climbs through trees in wet tropical forest. It is named after the city of Mysore, and is also known as the Indian clock vine, Mysore trumpet vine, Munzerabad creeper and lady's slipper vine. Its dramatic, pendulous chains carry bold, slipper-shaped flowers in rich golden yellow with maroon to brownish-red tips, and in the wild they are pollinated by sunbirds feeding on the nectar.
It is a woody, evergreen, twining climber that can reach 6–10 m, so it needs a strong, sunny pergola, trellis or arbour where the flower chains can hang down. It twines clockwise, which is how the clock vine got its name. It is grown as a showpiece in Indian gardens, but it is still uncommon and prized by collectors. It prefers warm, humid weather and regular water, and it needs protection from cold.

It takes full sun but does well in bright, filtered light or part shade. Choose a spot where the flower chains can hang freely.
Water regularly, especially in the warm months, keeping the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged.
Use fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost, in a large pot or a deep planting pit.
Feed every 3–4 weeks in the growing season with a balanced fertiliser, and top up compost each year.
Train it over a sturdy pergola, trellis or arbour so the chains hang down. It is too heavy for a light fence.
Trim lightly after a flush of flowers to control its size. It flowers on mature growth, so avoid heavy pruning.
Thunbergia mysorensis flowers mainly in winter to spring in India, and a mature vine can keep flowering on and off through much of the year in warm, humid conditions. The long, hanging chains carry many slipper-shaped flowers, and each chain lasts for weeks. Young vines need time to establish and climb before they flower well, and sun, regular feeding and a strong support to hang from give the best display.
